Tutorials amongst other things
- This is a holding place for templates to help, for whoever is interested, in understanding and remembering the basics of configuring sound parameters and modulation routing for the Dave Smith Instruments Prophet Rev2 and the Waldorf Blofeld synthesizers. It is not intended to be a replacement for a computer based editor or for someone who has a very good memory. The idea is to use it as part of the learning process in understanding the sound design principles in general and specific for the DSI Prophet Rev2 and the Blofeld. Feel free to use it however you see fit, but please contact me if you are planning to make money using these templates.
After the holiday it is time to get to know the Prophet Rev2, this is a very first patch used in a small piece of music I wrote to celebrate our Norway vacation. The patch is very simple, layer A only uses LFO 1 and 2 for modulation, layer B uses LFO 1 and two slots in the modulation matrix. This patch is not based on any factory setting, it is created directly from the Basic Program initialization.

- While using this patch from the DAW (Bitwig 2) I noticed some strange behaviour using multimode, notes gone missing and layer A can be addressed through midi channel 1 and layer B through channel 2 (if base midi channel set to 1). This is not what should happen according to the manual..... See also Multimode Issue Update: DSI support has acknowleged the issue as a bug and are working to fix it. Apparently the manual is not completely clear in indicating how the Rev2 should behave in multimode, but it is correct behavior that layer A is addressable on the base MIDI channel and layer B the MIDI channel next. You must set in Global settings the MIDI channel other than 'All'.
First time use of the step sequencer, a very simple 4 step sequence that creates a lovely floaty flute kind of effect. When used stacked with layer B, effect can be quiet nice: step sequencer flute patch
My son asked me to create an "Ambient spacey drone" like patch: spacey ambient drone patch. It is great to make the Rev2 behave like a modular synth, that keeps playing by itself. There are many possibilities here to add more randomization, I only touched onto something here. Adding the Lexicon MX-400 Chorus + Arena effect creates the required Ambient feel (thanks Brian).
My first track featuring the Prophet Rev2. Using multimode, driven by Bitwig 2 on MIDI channel 1 for layer A and MIDI channel 2 for layer B. No external effects used on the Rev 2.
Also featuring my first "Mellotron" style patch for the Blofeld, loaded with a few samples.
